The Yangtze University was approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2003. It was formed by the merger of the former Jianghan Petroleum Institute, Hubei Agricultural College, Jingzhou Normal College, and Hubei Medical College of Health Workers. It is the largest university in Hubei Province and has a full range of disciplines. The comprehensive university, which is a key university in Hubei Province, is selected as the national “Basic Infrastructure Construction Project for Universities in the Midwest”, and is also the Hubei Provincial People’s Government and China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation. The company has jointly built colleges and universities jointly established by the People’s Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Agriculture. The school headquarters is located in Jingzhou, a historical and cultural city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and has a Wuhan campus. Jingzhou has a long history and splendid culture. It is the birthplace of Chu culture and the focus of the Three Kingdoms culture. It is the hometown of Chu, the great capital of Chu, and the hometown of Qu Yuan, a great patriotic poet in the Spring and Autumn Period. It has always been a battleground for military strategists. School campus covers an area of 4742 acres, school building area of 900,000 square meters, 1.77 billion yuan in fixed assets. There are currently 108 national and other types of laboratories and experimental centers, and 307 practice bases inside and outside the university. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 560 million yuan. The medical school now offers 4 undergraduate education for clinical medicine, nursing, medical imaging and traditional Chinese & western medicine as well as 4 specialty education for nursing, acupuncture and massage, medical imaging, orthopedics and traumatology. The clinical medicine was granted to the first-level of master degrees. Both of internal medicine and surgery are provincial key disciplines. The laboratories cover 8685.99㎡,providing 1500 experimental operation platforms and fine experimental teaching equipment which meets all demands of the teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The center provides a good platform for research in various fields, such as molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, medical microbiology, medical immunology, medical genetics and clinical medicine.
