BAU International University, Batumi is a newly established teaching university in Georgia, where the three fold mission of education and research is successfully carried out by highly trained academic personnel, latest technologies, laboratories and classrooms. The university is located in the same building as a new International University Hospital. The hospital itself has been constructed according to JCI standards and is equipped with up-to-date facilities. In addition, the university periodically hosts famous doctors from Turkey who hold public lectures for students. Institute of critical care medicine was founded on April 20, 1992 as the International Centre of Catastrophes and Critical Care Medicine. Since March 26, 1996 it functions as Critical Care Medicine Institute. The Institute was granted accreditation (decision #2-19/284) by protocol #18 of February 7, 2005 of the Accreditation Board of the Tertiary Educational Institutions of Georgia. Main directions of Institute’s activities comprise: training of medical personnel, scientific research, medical practice, and publishing periodicals. The Institute is a provider of all existing insurance companies that are operating in Georgia, the institute’s services are used by insurance companies that are operating in Caucasus region and are based in the USA The Institute is a clinical base for Department of Critical Care Medicine at the Tbilisi State Medical University. The institute is the base of the “Georgian Association of Disaster and Critical Care Medicine,” that is the member of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) and the members of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM ), as well as national member of “Global Alliance against Sepsis”. The Institute also serves as a basic structural unit of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Georgia. In the Institute there are following services: Critical medicine, Surgery, Neurosurgery, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Hemodialysis, Rehabilitation Medicine, Diagnostics and other services.
