University of Rzeszów Faculty of Medicine, Poland

THE UNIVERSITY OF RZESZÓW was established in 2001 through the merger of the Pedagogical University of Rzeszów, the Maria Curie Skłodowska University, Lublin, Rzeszów branch and the Economics Faculty of the Agricultural Academy of Cracow.

The University of Rzeszów successfully continues the policy of these Institutions, but on wider range, with new facilities and courses. University’s international cooperation is very fruitful with educational Institutions both from West and East Europe. The University of Rzeszów participates in the ERASMUS and CEEPUS Programmes and Foundations of Alexander Humboldt, DAAD, NATO.

The University of Rzeszów has its leading role in initiating and keeping great and wide scientific, social and cultural contacts with neighbouring countries and our partners from European Community. Geo-cultural conditions open many possibilities of cooperating through the structure of Carpathian Euroregion and it is still one of its priorities to keep international cooperation fluent and profitable.

The University of Rzeszów realises student and teaching staff mobility, organizes international scientific conferences and meetings. The researchers from UR take part in research trainings, lectures and sessions with specialists from Poland and Europe, concerning social, economic, cultural and scientific problems and issues.

A lot of faculties belong to the international associations and organisations as well as students, who take part in conferences organised in different part of Europe in the framework of ELSA or AEGEE.

The University offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, specialist training, supplementary training, and adult education.The University has over 16,000 full- and part-time students. Every year approximately 4,000 new students are admitted. The staff comprises about 2,000 people.There are 11 faculties.

The origins of the Faculty of Medicine can be traced back to the establishment of the Institute of Physical and Health Education in 1992 at the then Rzeszów University of Pedagogy. The Faculty began to function as an independent unit of the University of Rzeszów in 2005 as the Faculty of Health Sciences, but was changed to the current name by the University’s Senate Resolution in 2006.

The overall number of students enrolled during the 2016/2017 academic year exceeded 2700.There were 215 academic and teaching Staff, including 41 professors in its employment as at the end of 2016.The Faculty prepares students at both the bachelor and master’s degree level.

The university library-information computer network consists of the University of Rzeszów Library, faculty libraries and institute libraries. BUR employs 98 employees: 35 curators, 9 senior librarians, 25 librarians, 21 junior librarians, 4 store-keepers, 1 compilation tender, 1 network administrator and 2 self-reliant technical clerks.

University of Rzeszów Library is the biggest humanistic library in the Podkarpacie voivodship. The book collection comprises almost 700.000, over 100.000 volumes of continuous publishing and 34.000 special compilations.

The dormitory offers 700 beds in double and triple rooms and 10 single rooms. Accommodation in single rooms can be granted only by the Appeal Scholarship Commission

In one residential segment  there are two bedrooms with a hall and a bathroom. In the hall there is a washbasin, in the bathroom: a toilet and a shower. The room is connected to the TV network – analogue and digital (16 TV channels) and to the Internet in the cable system. The phones in the rooms are connected to the internal network which enables to make free calls to every building within  the University of Rzeszow and the University of Technology.

On each floor there is one kitchen with three electrical double ceramic countertops, an oven and  a microwave. There are bins for rubbish segregation and a chute on every floor in the hallways.

The rooms are illuminated with the energy saving led tubes, and in the kitchens and hallways LEDs are switched by motion sensors.

Safety in the dormitories is secured by a modern fire alarm system with smoke detectors in the rooms and audible signals in each hall.  32 cameras are placed in the hallways and 8 cameras are in the parking lots ( with a total of 100 car spaces) with the ability to recover data for two weeks. Each resident receives a system key to the room , which also opens the hall.
