Wuhan University of Science and Technology is a local high-level university built jointly by the provincial and ministerial ministries. It is the national university “fundamental capacity building project in the central and western regions” selected for university. The history of school running is traced back to the craft school that was approved by the government of Qing Dynasty in the late Qing Dynasty to the Governor of Hunan and Guangxi Zhang Zhidong. After the Hubei Institute of Secondary Industry, Hubei Jiazhong Industrial School, Hanyang Senior Industrial Vocational School, Wuchang Senior Industrial School, and Zhongnan Iron and Steel Industry School. The inheritance and development of the Wuchang Iron and Steel Industry School was established in 1958 as the Wuhan Iron and Steel Institute and undergraduate education. In 1995, the Wuhan Iron and Steel Institute, the Wuhan Institute of Architecture, and the Wuhan Metallurgy Medical College under the Ministry of Metallurgy were merged to form the Wuhan University of Metallurgy and Technology. In 1998, according to the needs of the national higher education management system reform, the school became the first batch of transfer colleges to implement “central and local joint construction and management based on the Hubei Provincial People’s Government”. In 1999, it was renamed Wuhan University of Science and Technology.
The total area of the school campus is 1,709,300 square meters, and the school building area is 1,813,100 square meters. The campus enjoys beautiful scenery, beautiful lakes, beautiful scenery, complete teaching facilities, and perfect conditions for running schools.
Founded in 1958, it is one of the large libraries in the universities in Hubei Province.The Library in Qingshan Old Campus has seven floors, occupying an area of 11,000 square meters, plus the library branch in School of Construction and School of Medicine, the total area can achieve 16,000 square meters. The library has 20 reading rooms, and 2,400 reading seat, can receive at a maximum of 4,000 readers every day. It is the orange building in the top photo.Nowadays, the whole library stores about 1,000,000 literature, of which 880,000 books, foreign periodicals about 100,000 volumes, video literature 1,000 copies, electrical literature 8,000 kinds. Every year, 1,200 kinds of Chinese and foreign literature are subscribed, and the amount increases at the speed of 12,000 volumes per year.
