Surgut State University Institute of Medicine, Russia

Surgut State University was founded on May, 26th, 1993 on the initiative of the Surgut City and Surgut Region Administrations, the Governors of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra and Tyumen Region.

The founder of Surgut State University was its first rector Georgiy Ivanovich Nazin, whose leadership helped to turn the first classical university in Ugra into the educational and cultural center of Surgut and the whole region.

The present rector is Professor Sergey Mikhailovich Kosenok, Doctor of Education, Honored Educator of Russia.

Today Surgut State University boasts 6 institutes and over 9,000 students. It comprises 61 Chairs, a Research Institute of Environmental Management and the North Ecology, a Scientific Center and 4 research laboratories that pursue extensive educational and research activities. The Staff is highly-qualified and experienced team. The Intellectual potential is 600 lecturers, including 107 Doctors of Education and Science and about 300 PhD (Candidates of science).

72 educational programs have been developed to provide educational services of high quality, including 21 Bachelor and 15 Master degree programmes. Diploma programmes focus on developing practical skills and can significantly improve the career prospects in the chosen industry or profession. The University has opened post-graduate courses in 51 specialties giving instruction to 400 post-graduates. Scientists of Surgut State University obtained 74 patents, published more than 30 monographs, thousands of scientific reports, theses and other research papers. The University’s scientific library contains more than 400 thousand volumes. Its 9 reading halls can host 520 people at once. You can hardly find such a library anywhere else in the world. It’s supposed to be a Resource Center for the entire Khanty-Mansiysk Area.

The SSU scientists implement a great number of Federal and Regional scientific programmes and its scientific school has become the leader of science for the entire Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Area.
