LNMU begins from the Medical Faculty of Lviv University, which was opened on November 16, 1784, according to the privilege of the Austrian emperor Josef II. University library contains more than 530000 volumes of textbooks, manuals and other relevant medical literature. Library has modern computer equipment. It has Internet connection and is connected with other scientific city libraries. Clinical departments of University have the fund of more than 10000 beds (41 affiliated hospitals), 9 polyclinic departments. University departments and laboratories participate in 12 scientific programs of Ukrainian Ministry of Health and international organizations. Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University combines 6 faculties, medical college, 78 departments (including 48 clinical departments), 14 academic buildings, 41 affiliated hospitals, scientific library,sanatorium, student cafes and canteens, sports and health recovery camp. There are 40 amateur groups, clubs, workshops in University. There are 23 sport-public and recreation and sports clubs in the University. Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy of Health Ministry of Ukraine was established in 1916. The Academy is considered to be one of the leading education institutions in Ukraine.
