The National Research University “Belgorod State University” (BelSU) is one of the oldest universities in Belgorod, Russia. On September 26, 1876 in the district town of Belgorod, the Teacher’s Training Institute – the ninth of that kind in Russia – was founded by the order of the Russian Ministry of Public Education. On June 4, 1919 Belgorod Teacher’s Training Institute was reorganized into Belgorod Pedagogical Institute by the order of the People’s Commissariat for Education of the RSFSR, and in 1920 it was reorganized into Belgorod Institute of Public Education. In 1922 Belgorod Institute of Public Education was reorganized into Belgorod Practical Institute of Public Education, which was reordered into the Pedagogical Secondary School in September, 1923. In 1939 it became the Teacher’s Training Institute again. The University had to temporarily suspend its operation in 1941 due to the outbreak of World War II and resumed its work only when the area had been completely liberated from fascists – in 1944, but in a new place – the town of Stary Oskol (Belgorod region) because Belgorod came out of war almost totally destroyed. Since 1957, the University has been located in Belgorod. Nowadays the University has several campuses in and out of the city. In the early 2000s, the University complex began to develop and expand fast due to new buildings with modern equipment. The number of students over the last 7 years has grown more than three times. Belgorod State University consists of several campuses. The central campus includes 8 academic buildings, a research library, a publishing house, a museum of BelSU history, a University newspaper editorial office, a Career Counseling Center, Youth Cultural Center, a dormitory, an apartment block for University faculty, St.Gabriel’s University Church and an administrative building. This campus provides facilities for professional training of future lawyers, philologists, translators, biologists, chemists, doctors, pharmacists, journalists, geologists, geographers, managers, economists, and programmers. All the buildings of the central campus were built at the beginning of the 20th century. The campus of the Faculty of Theology and Social Sciences is located in the renovated building of the former His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh’s men’s classical school. The building is an original monument of eclectic architecture and is under protection of the state. The apartment block for faculty, put in operation in 2010, is located nearby. Yet another University campus houses classrooms, research laboratories, Distance Learning Center, 5 dormitories, Burevestnik (shearwater) Sport Complex, Center of Preclinical and Clinical study, and BelSU Clinic. Academic facilities on this campus are mostly used by future school teachers of Russian and Foreign languages, Physics and Mathematics, History, Primary school and Fine arts, Physical culture, as well as speech therapists and psychologists. he Youth Cultural Center at BelSU houses 16 amateur art groups for students. The University library system includes 11 reading rooms (including three rooms with open access to the Library collection), 9 lending libraries, and over 1.2 million items in the Library collection. Tajik State Medical University is a public university in Tajikistan. Established in 1939, it is located in Dushanbe and named after Avicenna. Annually the staff of the University carries out over 15000 surgical operations and over 45000 remedial and consultative actions that makes about 60% of all medical interventions to be carried out in the healthcare facilities of the city of Dushanbe. Realization of research activity in the field of public health is one of the most important directions of the University activity, and an occasion for pride is that ATSMU has achieved the outstanding successes in scientific sphere. So, during recent 5 years 114 PhD and Doctor Theses were defended, 4984 articles and 35 monographs were published, 157 discoveries and the interventions have been defended by the patents. The mandate of the University is to train high-qualified medical personnel according to the needs of the population of Tajikistan. To perform this task ATSMU has 796 faculty members working in 63 chairs, where the majority are outstanding and highly professional scientists. The University has four faculties – Medical, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical and Public Health Faculty. The total number of students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels makes 8844, including over 500 international students from 15 countries, such as India, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan etc. The library fund of the University consists of 680334 items of the educational, medical and scientific literature, including 151100 items of electronic books. University has the well equipped electronic library, connected to the Internet, accessible to all beneficiaries. Taking into consideration the available resources and a spectrum of opportunities, the University library is considered to be the best specialized medical library in the country. During the last years the capacity of the University was strengthened by opening various resources, scientific and clinical centers, such as Stem Cells Laboratory, Evidencebased Medicine Centre, Drug Information Centre, Educational-clinical Centre “Stomatology”, Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, Clinical Skills Centre etc. Some centers and the laboratories working within framework of the ATSMU are unique in the republic, and provide methodological support to scientific and medical establishments at the national level. The University Of Santo Tomas Faculty Of Medicine And Surgery is the medical school of the University of Santo Tomas, the oldest and largest Catholic university in Manila, Philippines. Established in 1871, the faculty is the first medical school in the Philippines. It is proclaimed to be a Center of Excellence by the Commission on Higher Education. Petition for the establishment of colleges dedicated to medicine and pharmacy started in 1682, 61 years after the foundation of the University of Santo Tomas. On November 22 of the same year, the Spanish granted the petition but nothing came of it due to financial and technical difficulties. By 1785, the Dominican Friars put it on the priority list and despite the enthusiasm of Governor General Mariano Folgueras, the planned colleges failed to materialize until the late 19th century. The Faculty of Medicine was eventually associated with Colegio de San Jose as both were suffering from lack of financial support. Both institutions were saved by Dr. Esteban Rodriguez de Figueroa’s last will and testament which stated that his wealth be given to the Society of Jesus. The haciendas of Colegio de San Jose were turned over to the University of Santo Tomas as ordered by Governor General Domingo Moriones y Muralla in 1879. These were returned to the Society of Jesus in 1910 which was to fund a seminary now known as the San Jose Seminary. It was also associated with the San Juan de Dios Hospital which functioned as the college’s clinical arm as decreed by King Alfonso of Spain on October 29, 1875.This setup continued until 1941 when the Japanese took over Quezon Institute and transferring all of its medical staff and patients to San Juan de Dios Hospital. Clinical training during this time was in partnership with Saint Paul Hospital in Intramuros until the walled city’s destruction during the Liberation of Manila. With the reopening of the Faculty of Medicine in España, it experienced substantial growth. In 1932, the Faculty began to accept female students and by 1937, about 30 women physicians were graduated.
