Sana’a University Republic of Yemen, Yemen

Sana’a University was established in 1970 as the first and the primary university in the Yemen Arab Republic(North Yemen), now the Republic of Yemen (see also Aden University). It is located in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, and is currently organized with 17 faculties.

Thamar University Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, Yemen

The inception of the university dates back to 1990 when the Faculty of Education was established at Dhamar as a teaching center of Sana’a University. Departments such as English, Arabic, History, Geography, Islamic Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, were opened. In 1993 another College of Education was opened at Radaa. Thamar University is the alma mater of some 136,000 undergraduate and graduate students, drawn from almost all over governorates of Yemen. A number of students are from abroad. On the faculty of the university there more than 520 faculty members both native and expatriate from Arab as well as foreign countries. The number of students to be enrolled every year in each college is determined by the Students’ Affairs Council of Dhamar University and is approved by the High Council for Yemeni Universities. About three months before the commencement of the academic year, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announces the date of the admission and the admission test. Dhamar University has faculties of: Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Administrative Sciences, Physical Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Literature and Language arts, Feqh and Shariaah, Art, Education, Tourism and Hotels.

Taiz University Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, Yemen

The University is located in Taiz, and is one of the public universities operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research  . Taiz University was founded at the beginning of the Faculty of Education as a branch of the Faculty of Education at the University of Sana’a in 1985-1986, then became an independent university after that in 1994-1995, and took the university in the development and expansion of its educational and research over the past years The mission of Taiz University is to support the Yemeni society and the surrounding areas in general, and the Yemeni industrial sector in particular with qualified graduates with knowledge, skills and attitudes and to prepare them to assume their responsibilities in the process of innovation, knowledge transfer and sustainable development. University of Aden, Yemen

The University of Aden is the first Yemeni university founded in the Republic of Yemen beside Sana’a University. The foundation of the College of Education in 1970 and Nasser’s College for Agricultural Sciences in 1972 was the launching point of the University of Aden. The two colleges were under the jurisdiction and authority of the Minister of Education. In 1974 the College of Economics was founded. Every college constitutes an administrative unit.

University of Applied and Social Sciences, Yemen

The college of social sciences is a non-state higher education institution, operating since 1994. Established on a private initiative basis as Nijolė Skučienė School of Languages ​​and Business Management, in 2001 she became a high school non-university. SMK is the largest non-state higher education institution in Lithuania. The College offers a wide range of study programs in the areas of informatics, health, arts, business and public administration, law, and social sciences. SMK is based in Vilnius and Klaipėda, and starting in 2018, it starts operating in Kaunas. University of Sana’a Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Yemen

University of Science and Technology, Yemen USTY is a private university in Sana’a, Yemen. It was established in 1994 as the College of Science and Technology and later became a major university with branches in the main Yemeni cities like Aden, Taiz , Ibb,Hadhramaut and Hodiedah. In addition to faculties, USTY has centers that offer educational, consultation, research and development services, training courses and workshops for either individuals or organizations. The centers play a great role and make positive contribution to community development, create awareness and provide skills and training in education-related areas. Since its inception, USTY has exerted great efforts and attention to register its students’ patents and push them towards outstanding innovations at the regional and international levels. For instance, USTY engineering students have won the 6th position out of 10 projects for their design of low cost leakage current tester in the competition that has been organized by the Engineering World Health on August 8, 2013. Later, two other engineering students won the award of “Babakr” organization for innovation in Yemen for their outstanding innovations.  

University of Science and Technology College of Medical Sciences, Yemen

The University of Science and Technology Yemen (USTY) was earlier established in 1994 as the National College of Science and Technology. It is a non-profit private university which has seen enormous growth and development over the years. For the last several years until now, it was voted as the best private university in Yemen. USTY also has five branches throughout Yemen, a special branch for girls in Sana’a as USTY offers separate education for both girls and boys, and sixteen learning, research and consultation centres. It also has several coordinating learning offices worldwide which supports it Distance Learning programs. Today, the university has achieved a presence and is an active member of major educational associations such as Association of Arab Universities, Arab Higher Education Institutions, Federation of Universities of the Islamic World, Association of World Universities, Arab Network for Open and Distance Education, Member of International Council for Open and Distance Learning(ICDE), Member of International Computer Driving License(ICDL). Member of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business(AACSB International).Its linkages with foreign universities in China, Malaysia, Turkey, Holland, Germany, Italy has resulted in exchange of students, exchange of staff, conducting joint research, and the holding of international conferences in Yemen. In strategizing the change for the University, USTY used the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach. Beginning with identifying the four strategic goals as per the four dimensions of the BSC, many sub-goals have been branched off from the four strategic goals. Each sub-goal is achieved through implementation of projects to achieve the goal directly. Indicators were developed to measure the achievement of the sub-goals. The follow-up and assessment mechanism is regularly and continuously implemented according to the BSC instruments prepared previously for this purpose. Other than studying, students of USTY engage in extra-curricular activities such as: long trips(3 days) and short trips(1 day).for girls and boys but separately For long trips, it is suspended due to the situation, scientific visits and picnics, collecting students’ initiatives and make a competition for the best initiative, annual sport match between private and public universities and faculties, sport tournament between faculties and academic departments and other activites. Over years, USTY has produced many graduates who are now contributing in public and private sectors not only in Yemen but also in other parts of the world, holding very responsible positions. They are directors of companies, presidents of universities, academicians, entrepreneurs, in many diverse professions. Tawakel Karman earned an undergraduate degree in Commerce.  She was awarded the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize. She is the first Yemeni citizen and first Arab woman to win a Nobel Prize. She is a co-recipient of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the first Yemeni, the first Arab woman, and the second Muslim woman to win a Nobel Prize and the second youngest Nobel Peace Laureate to date.
