Yerevan State Medical University is one of the leading Government Medical University in Eastern Europe. It was founded in 1920 as a faculty and established as an independent Institution in 1930. The University is enlisted in the Directory of Higher Medical Institutions adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO). YSMU is a State non-commercial institution under the Ministry of Education and Science. In the framework of these cooperation agreements, various academic programs, student exchange and joint research activities are implemented. After completing the second year of medical school, the students who perform well can participate in the Medical Scientific works of the ‘Scientific Research Centre’ of the university. The university has trained over 30,000 doctors and pharmacists for nearly a century long existence. Currently, over 162 Doctor of Sciences and 481 Ph.D. degree holders constitute the university faculty of 1100 Professors. 264 members of the university faculty hold Scientific degrees, 7 Academicians of RA National Academy of Sciences conduct scientific and academic workings in the University. 80 Professors of Medicine, 171 Associate Professors and 6 Senior Research Officers are enrolled in the university teaching, scientific and clinical activities. Yerevan State Medical University is one of the most popular destinations for medical education in Europe, with over 1000 Indian students presently pursuing their studies there. Currently, there are about 5,500 students enrolled in the studies at seven faculties of Yerevan State Medical University after M. Heratsi; 1140 of them coming from different countries of the world. YSMU has more than 15 specialized hospitals with the latest apparatus, equipment and monitors where medical students are well trained. They are given an opportunity to provide competent medical services to the public as well as to carry out practical research work. International students also familiarize in different specialized clinics with outpatient services as well as more complicated cases in the concerned departments. This outpatient clinic provides medical care to pediatric and adult population. The University library comprises over 6,50,000 textbooks and professional literature. The research and academic stock of the medical library is extremely rich. The medical library of the University is one of the richest libraries. The textbooks and professional literature are replenished by works authored by the University faculty; manuals are also obtained from overseas countries In addition, specific research journals and magazines are regularly obtained. The library has two sterling halls, one of which is equipped with computers having free access to University’s online educational resources to be used by students, residents, researchers and faculty members. These computers, as well as computers at other halls are gateways to international research resources, such as Up-to-date, Hinari, Ovid-SP. The University covers the resource-related expenses, respectively. Medical librarians provide assistance and consultation recommending resources for individual and group research. The library and the reading hall are widely used by the students till late evening hours. The University Hostel established for Foreign students is composed of two buildings. The Hostel provides adequate facilities necessary for residing, studying and recreation activities. Separate hostels wings are provided for boys and girls on sharing basis. International hostels are furnished with basic amenities and are centrally heated. The Hostel Cafeteria presents itself as a non-commercial dining facility with cheap prices. Indian food is also available. Each floor houses a kitchen intended for use by students to prepare meals. Hostel residents are served with free breakfast on each working day. The hostel is provided with Wi-Fi equipped Computer hall, Reading hall, Conference Hall, Event hall, Dining hall, Television lounge, Laundry facilities and Sports ground. Laundry equipment is also available at the Hostel: 7 washing machines and 7 tumble dryers. In winter autonomous heating supply system operates at the Hostel. The Hostel is supplied with cold and hot water and energy on a 24-hour basis. The student doesn’t pay for the electric energy consumed, water supply, for using First-aid unit and Internet services and doesn’t have to pay for other utility expenses. Twice a month students are provided with clean bedding free of charge. Medical University’s Food Services provides distinct on-campus catering services, which are also available at the University Hostel. There are 4 cafeterias in the University campus and one in the Hostel. These dining facilities are affiliated to the Medical University and operate on a non-commercial basis.
