The Medical University of Silesia in Katowice enters its 70th academic year. Jurasz. The authorities also did not express their interest in the acquisition of equipment, and instead of the Academy created the establishment of the Institute for Specialization and Physician Dissemination. Medical Academy of Łódź was a Polish medical university which functioned in the country’s second-largest city, Łódź, from 1950 to 2002. Founded on 1 January 1950, the institution merged with the Military Medical Academy of Łódź on 1 October 2002, to form the Medical University of Łódź, known as a leading European research center and Poland’s largest hospital teaching unit. The Medical University of Lodz was inaugurated on October 1, 2002 as a merger of two Medical Schools: the Medical Academy of Lodz and the Military Medical Academy of Lodz by the Act of the Polish Parliament of July 27, 2002. The Medical Academy of Lodz was founded on October 24,1949 by separating from the University of Lodz three faculties: Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical. The University was established in 1950 as the tenth in Poland Medical Academy. Soon it was renamed to the Medical Academy. Branicki Palace became the headquarters of the new establishment. The first rector of the Medical Academy in Bialystok was appointed prof. Tadeusz Kielanowski, a native of Lwow. Many pre-war workers and university graduates from Vilnius, Cracow, Lwow, Poznan, Warsaw or Lublin have been found among the university’s academic staff.  168 students started their studies at the Faculty of Medicine. Most of the theoretical facilities were located in the adjoining building of the former Teachers’ Seminary – now Collegium Primum. The buildings transferred to the University were destroyed in 1944. At the end of the war they were rebuilt. After the establishment of the AMB, workers and students helped with construction work. The clinic of the new University became the hospital in the city, survived by war fires. In 1950, the first scientific and didactic plants were established and the Ftyzjatria Clinic was established. In 1951, the university was granted the title of doctoral degree in medical sciences. In 1955 the first graduates of the Faculty of Medicine received the doctor’s diploma. The Medical Academy in Gdańsk was established on October 8, 1945. Its history is related to the centuries-old tradition of practicing medicine in Gdańsk by surgeons associated with the Surgeon’s Guild, which has been operating since 1454, as well as in medical and natural sciences, particularly in the Atheneum Gedanense founded in 1558. It created the chair of natural sciences and medicine (physices et medicinae), which was headed by outstanding experts of the subject. The most famous of them was Joachim Oelhafius, a native of Gdansk, who in 1613 was the first in Northern Europe to conduct a public section of the neonatal body and the anatomist and physician – Jan Adam Kulmus, an anatomist published in 1732, “Tabulae anatomicae”. The work has been published many times and has been translated into many languages. The Academic Gymnasium presented a high level, and its graduates were admitted to the third year of medical studies at Western European universities. After the liquidation of the Academic Gymnasium at the beginning of the 19th century until the first years of the twentieth century, there was no academic school in Gdansk. The traditions of the pharmaceutical sciences in Gdańsk date back to the times of Jan Placotomus, the author of wonderful books and the founder of the first Gdansk pharmacy in 1527 and Jan Schmiedt alias Fabritius, co-author of the oldest pharmacopoeia in Poland published in 1665.In 1935, the senate of Gdansk, already almost completely controlled by the German nationalists (members of the NSDAP), began the organization of the Academy of Practical Medicine (Die Staatliche Akademie für Praktische Medizin zu Danzig) on ​​the basis of a municipal hospital built between 1907 and 1911. The teaching of medicine in a newly opened university included clinical subjects. In 1940, after the teaching of preclinical subjects, the name of the university was changed to Medizinische Akademie in Danzig, creating a full five-year study of medicine.Gdansk Medical University educates nearly 6000 students, postgraduates and postgraduate students. Among them there are nearly 800 foreign students. The MUG student campus is situated on Dębowa Street, within walking distance of the main building – Collegium Biomedicum and the Main Library and other University buildings. Medical University of Lublin has its origins in the year 1944 in Lublin, Poland. The university gained its autonomy in 1950. As the years passed, new departments were added such as the Department of Dentistry in 1973. An agreement with the Hope Medical Institute in the United States was signed in the early 1990s, which initiated a program of teaching medicine to English-speaking students at the Medical University of Lublin. Thereafter a four-year MD program was formed. The history of teaching medicine in Lublin is the history of people, places, research initiatives, thanks to which this university could not only arise, but also to develop and achieve successes, first as the Academy (Medicine) (1950-2008), since 2008 as a university . The aim of this paper is to present the history of the Medical University in the context of its cultural presence in the history of Lublin and the region. The collection of journals has 132,00 volumes, which gives a few thousand of scientific periodicals, mainly in Polish and in English. The Library subscribes 301 titles of Polish journals and 43 foreign ones. There are also special collections such as collection of antique books, doctoral dissertations, master’s thesis and bachelor’s thesis written at the Medical University of Warsaw as well as a collection of video cassettes and CDs.
